Building out a mobile production rig is a constant battle against space. Every single inch counts. I spent weeks staring at the layout of my camper van conversion trying to figure out how to maximize food storage without losing valuable floor space. The solution? A custom, multi-functional bench. The wiring process was a nightmare, but I finally got the 12-volt fridge fully powered. I mounted the heavy-duty fridge onto specialized drawer slides, allowing it to tuck completely away inside the base of the bench structure. The result? Incredible. With a quick pull of the latch, the hidden refrigerator glides smoothly straight out into the main cabin walkway, giving us full access to supplies before sliding back out of sight. The functionality doesn't stop at the sliding drawer. I installed heavy-duty brass hinges along the top plywood paneling of the bench seat. This lid flips straight up to reveal the internal power routing cables and an integrated structural cutout. This opening provides a direct access point straight into the rear garage storage area from inside the living space, meaning we don't have to step outside into the elements to grab extra gear.AdvertisementAdvertisementEvery component in a small-scale build needs to serve more than one purpose. By integrating the cooling unit and rear access into a single seating area, the build remains incredibly clean and functional. If you are planning your own layout, always look for ways to make your furniture do double duty.
