The MG 07 is the electric coupe we want, but can’t have. It’s about to go on sale in China with a semi-solid-state EV battery offering nearly 400 miles (610 km) of range, the industry’s first “Queen” makeup station, and a bunch of other premium extras for about $22,000. MG sets 07 launch date with semi-solid-state EV batteries China’s SAIC has already introduced a few vehicles equipped with semi-solid-state batteries. Last year, it launched the new MG4, deeming it the “world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state electric vehicle.” Earlier this year, MG opened orders for the MG 4X, its first SUV to feature the new battery tech, starting at just 99,800 yuan ($14,700). The Chinese auto giant is preparing to introduce its next EV that will use semi-solid-state batteries. SAIC announced that pre-sales for the new MG 07, a premium electric coupe, will open on July 29, 2026. The intelligent driving system covers the full spectrum of assisted driving features from L2 to L2++. According to Momenta, the R7 World Model in the MG 07 will “formally open the Physical AI era,” with ADAS features including advanced urban assisted driving and automated remote parking. Inside, the electric coupe features an immersive cockpit that includes a large 15.6″ central touchscreen and a smaller driver cluster display. The MG 07 offers premium features typically reserved for higher-priced models, including zero gravity seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. It also includes what SAIC calls the industry’s first Queen multi-functional makeup station, complete with a pull-out vanity and mirror above the glovebox. The MG 07 with a semi-solid-state battery will go on sale on July 29, starting at under 150,000 yuan ($22,000). According to China’s Auto-First, prices for the top variant with an 800V platform and 5C fast charging will start at under 180,000 yuan ($26,500). MG is set to bring the new semi-solid-state battery tech to Europe by the end of 2026, starting with the MG4 EV Urban. SAIC said that reducing the liquid electrolyte content to just 5% significantly reduces the risk of combustion and improves cycle life in semi-solid-state EV batteries. The batteries held up during two needle-penetration tests, producing no smoke, fires, or explosions after 2 hours. According to SAIC, it was an industry first and exceeded industry standards by 20%.
