Ferrari's track-focused special-series V8 cars have become some of the most desirable modern cars out of Maranello, and Broad Arrow's Quail Auction is offering a nearly new example of the ultimate open-top version. This 2020 488 Pista Spider shows just 1,834 miles from a single owner and carries an estimate of $1,400,000 to $1,600,000. For a look at the classic V12 GT that helped build Ferrari's front-engine reputation in the first place, our recent coverage of a Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona is worth a read. The lineage traces back to the 2003 360 Challenge Stradale, the car that proved a serious track-ready special series could still be road legal and usable. The 458 Speciale refined the formula further, and when the 488 Pista arrived in 2018, it brought a 710-horsepower twin-turbo V8 borrowed from the 488 Challenge race car, a lightweight crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, and a rear diffuser sourced from the 488 GTE. The Spider variant added a power-folding hardtop and a retractable rear window, letting the V8's soundtrack into the cabin whether the roof is up or down, at a cost of less than 200 pounds versus the coupe. Zero-to-62 mph still arrives in 2.8 seconds on the way to a 211 mph top speed.Photos: Broad Arrow AuctionsThis example is finished in Rosso Corsa with a Special Equipment Italian flag stripe edged in Bianco Avus and Verde Bandiera, paired with Extra-Range Nero leather, Rosso Ferrari inserts on the carbon fiber racing seats, and carbon trim throughout the cabin. It was delivered new through Ferrari of San Antonio in March 2020 and has had one owner since, who showed the car at the Italian Motor Gathering concours in Boerne, Texas, taking home multiple awards in both 2021 and 2023.AdvertisementAdvertisementWith just 1,834 miles at cataloging, a clean CARFAX, and a folio of delivery items including the original window sticker, build photos, and two scale models, this Pista Spider is about as close to new as one will find at auction. It crosses the block at The Quail in Carmel Valley.
