Automotive trends come and go, or at least that's what we thought. We're several years into a trend toward more off-road-capable vehicles (or at least ones that look as though they're capable), and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Nissan certainly doesn't see it, and that's partly why it's introducing a bunch of traditional SUVs in the next couple of years. In the meantime, it's also expanding its off-road pickup offerings yet again with the 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition.Nissan It's the Semi-Pro-4X Last year, Nissan introduced the Pro-4X R as the Frontier's off-road flagship. It comes with additional capability, but quite a bit of extra cost. Keeping in mind that some people may want some extra off-road capability, but might want something more approachable than the Pro-X and Pro-4X, it's introducing the Sport Edition package. It's based on the mid-level SV trim and picks some of the highlights from the upper Pro models.NissanOn the styling front, it gets black-painted accents, grille, and badging, along with 17-inch wheels. LED fog lights and headlight accents have also been added, too, and you'll find black and fluorescent yellow Sport decals on the fenders. Those hint at the eye-popping interior that's exclusive to the Sport. The same logos are embroidered into cloth seat backs, and the stitching and grab handles are the same vivid yellow.NissanAs for functional upgrades, they're minor but welcome. Nissan fits an aluminum skid plate to the front like that on the Pro models. Additionally, the 17-inch wheels get all-terrain tires that have a diameter of 31.6 inches. You may be wondering what the Sport lacks compared to the Pro models, and the answer is actually a fair bit. It lacks the fender flares of those, along with a specific off-road driving mode and Bilstein shocks. The Pro-4X, specifically, also gets an electronic locking rear differential. So the Pro models will certainly get you farther, but if you just need a little extra off-road capability and some more style, the Sport could be a good option. With any luck, it'll also be more affordable than the Pro models, but we'll have to wait for official pricing to be announced to know for sure. Nissan Made A Few Other Little Tweaks For 2027 Though the Frontier is mostly unchanged for the new model year, there are a few other small updates. The most significant is the optional wireless phone charger that has been thoroughly upgraded. Nissan has been rolling out these new chargers across the lineup which have Qi2 compatibility. This means they can provide more power for faster charging, and they have built-in magnets for securing the phone, and even a small fan to help keep the phone cool. We really liked it when we tried it in newer Nissan and Infiniti models, and we're glad to see it continue to be adopted.More minor changes include the Frontier's color palette and a few newly available features. Nissan added Alpine Metallic, and it dropped Citrus Strike. So, sadly, you won't be able to pair the new Sport's eye-popping interior with the similarly bright green paint. The Pro models are also now available with a sunroof option, and there seems to be a package for the SV that just adds all-terrain tires without all the other Sport Edition add-ons. The 2027 Frontiers and their new options will be available this summer, and we'll likely have pricing close to the launch.2027 Nissan Frontier Sport front
