ID. Buzz Returns to America With New Camper TrimVW (VW)Following a lackluster performance for the once-highly-anticipated van, VW decided to shelve the ID. Buzz models for North American markets for model year 2026. The automaker remained adamant that the retro-inspired machine would return for MY 2027, however, despite dramatically shifting EV-related policy decisions in the States.Well, the Buzz is officially back for the new model year—and arguably a bit more appealing than before. Perhaps more importantly, VW is finally leaning into the outdoor and camping heritage of its prior van nameplates by way of the new Tourer model. The entire ID. Buzz model lineup has been reworked for the van’s return to the States, now comprising four levels: Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion, and Pro S Plus 4Motion. The Tourer model in particular should be exciting to fans, as it brings some of the features from Europe’s “Good Night Package” to the States for the first time. These enhancements include an interior platform that folds out to support a mattress, window blinds for added privacy, ventilation panels for the front windows, and even exterior chairs and a table for lounging at your campsite. The vans also adopt software called Overnight Mode, which reconfigures certain interior and exterior features for camping ease. Overall, it looks like a pretty killer setup for someone who wants to embrace the old-school camper van lifestyle.VW (VW)Every Tourer model is based on the Pro S 4Motion trim level, which brings niceties like rear captains chairs, the lovely electrochromic glass roof panel, and a retractable tow hook for additional gear you might want to bring on an adventure. MY 2027 also brings some other tweaks to the offer sheet, including the removal of the solid-hued paint schemes; moving forward, every ID. Buzz will wear a two-tone setup, with a new Candy White over Cherry Red scheme arriving to celebrate that customer-driven change. VW will also roll out its new Android-based ID.S 6 infotainment software for the 2027 models.VW (VW)The ID. Buzz may not have turned out to be the success its predecessors were, but we’re glad to see that VW is still looking at ways to hone the van. I’m willing to bet that the new Tourer setup will make for a rather fun camper for a person or two ... though I wouldn’t recommend pushing too far away from the nearest DC fast charger. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
