Mercedes-Benz EVs gain access to the Tesla Supercharger networkThe boxy electric SUV actually has two charging ports now, just like the new CLA EV.The 2027 Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric is now available to order at U.S. dealers. The luxury off-roader ditched the old CCS1 charging port for a pair of connectors. Both ports are located under the same door, and one of them is a Tesla-style NACS inlet. The 2027 Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric, arguably the best modern G-Wagen, is here, and it brings several small improvements over the previous model. The battery-powered luxury electric SUV now has a native Tesla-style NACS charging port, ditching the CCS1 connector of the outgoing model. This means owners will no longer need to use an adapter at NACS-equipped DC fast chargers, though the automaker is bundling a free adapter for CCS1 chargers.Mercedes-Benz EVs gain access to the Tesla Supercharger networkThat said, drivers might find themselves needing another type of charging adapter, because Mercedes-Benz has applied the same formula as on the new CLA electric sedan, where the car has not one, but two charging ports. There's a NACS port for DC fast charging only, as well as a J1772 port for Level 2 AC charging only.As a result, owners will need to use a NACS-to-J1772 adapter if they want to use public Tesla Destination chargers or other NACS-equipped stalls. The AC adapter is not included with the purchase, and a reliable aftermarket option starts at around $120.The 2027 G 580 can charge slightly faster than its predecessor, with the automaker claiming a 0-to-80% top-up takes 29 minutes, down from the outgoing model's 32 minutes. The massive, 117-kilowatt-hour battery pack is the same as before, and so is its maximum 200-kilowatt input, so the German automaker has likely tweaked the charging logic, improving the average power draw. On AC charging, it can accept up to 9.6 kW.That's not all, though. Mercedes-Benz has also managed to make the bulky SUV quite a bit more efficient, with an average energy consumption of 48 kWh/100 miles (71 MPGe or 2.08 miles/kWh), down from the 2026 model's 54 kWh/100 miles (62 MPGe or 1.85 miles/kWh).The Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenThe Electric Mercdes G-WagenIt's still an energy guzzler, but the slight efficiency boost has resulted in 10 more miles of range on a full charge, with the 2027 G580 EV now getting an EPA-estimated 249 miles. That's despite wearing 20-inch wheels, just like the outgoing model.Everything else stays the same. The 2027 Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric weighs a hefty 6,746 pounds, but its quad-motor powertrain, with a dual-speed motor at each corner, can make light work of propelling the square-bodied EV from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds.Total output is rated at 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for any situation. But as with any G-Wagen, the electric G 580 was developed to feel at home on the rough stuff, with low-range gearing and virtual differential lockers offered as standard. Oh, and there's also the G Turn function, which enables the heavy EV to rotate like a tank.Pricing starts at $165,200, including destination, up from last year's $164,550.More Stuff Like ThisOne Of Our Favorite Hyundai EVs Is Suddenly Cheaper Than EverGM Is Making EV Charging A Lot Simpler With Energy Pass, NACS On All 2027 ModelsAll New BMW i5 EVs Now Have A Native NACS Charge PortMercedes-Benz's Charging Network Wants You To Leave That Adapter At Home
