Pirelli acquires a 30 percent stake in Univrses to advance road monitoring. The tire maker will deploy Univrses AI cameras to enhance data collection. Technology supports safer autonomy and more precise road network tracking. Italian tire giant Pirelli has just signed a partnership agreement with Swedish tech firm Univrses that includes a 30% ownership stake in the latter. They’ve done this to enhance their Cyber Tyre technology by incorporating Univrses know-how and AI-based computer vision systems. Cyber Tyre is Pirelli’s integrated hardware and software system that assists driver assistance systems and enables road monitoring. More than just some kind of fancy TPMS, the system features myriad sensors, including a few inside the tires. Other sensors, such as cameras, are also required for the Cyber Tire system to function properly. The software part is where Univrses’s technology steps in. The company’s 3DAI engine software endows autonomous vehicles with perception capabilities, including Spatial Deep Learning, as well as 3D Positioning and 3D Mapping. To put it simply, your car will not only know precisely where it is on a map, but also learn how to deal with its immediate environment, at least in theory. Commenting on this partnership, Andrea Casaluci, Chief Executive Officer of Pirelli, said: “The agreement with Univrses further enhances our Cyber Tire platform, thanks to advanced AI-based artificial vision technologies. The collaboration between Pirelli and Univrses will make a significant contribution to the ongoing transformation of cars into true software-defined vehicles.” Meanwhile, Jonathan Selbie, Chief Executive Officer of Univrses, added that “Continuous monitoring and data are becoming the new foundation for infrastructure asset management, and Univrses technology is able to provide powerful analytical capabilities based on reliable and frequently updated data. In this context, we are pleased to welcome Pirelli as an investor and to take our partnership to the next level: we will join forces to deliver increasingly advanced services and products.” The partnership isn’t purely theoretical, either. Pirelli and Italy’s Puglia Region already launched a road network monitoring pilot in 2025, combining Cyber Tyre data with Univrses’ computer vision to build a continuously updated map of infrastructure conditions across regional roads. It’s an early proof of concept and a sign that the technology is deep in development, and it seems that even your tires will contribute to an AI-driven, connected future sooner or later.
