This marks the first time in 24 years – since 2004 – that a Lotus model will be equipped with a V8 engine. Alongside this product announcement, the brand confirmed a major strategic shift, abandoning its goal of becoming fully electric by 2028 in favour of a multi-pathway strategy encompassing internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, and electric vehicles (EVs). Design and productionThe upcoming supercar is being developed at the Coventry Design Centre. While full details remain under wraps, the following elements have been confirmed or projected: Theory 1 electric supercar concept. Aesthetics: Expected features include a streamlined aerodynamic profile, a large rear spoiler, an aggressive diffuser, and prominent exhaust outlets to retain the traditional performance sound. Manufacturing: Production is slated for Europe, most likely at the Hethel plant in Norfolk, UK, where it will share assembly lines with the Emira and Evija. Interior: The cabin is expected to focus on a lightweight “racing-inspired” design, featuring digital interaction systems and sports seating. Lotus Esprit. Performance and powertrainThe Type 135 aims to be one of the most powerful production cars in the brand’s history.
