When Kia first announced these plans at CES 2024, it teased a larger van, and now Kia is officially launching the PV7 to expand its electric van lineup.KiaRevealed at the IAA Transportation 2026 show in Hannover, Germany, the PV7 is the second model in Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup. It will be offered in Cargo and Passenger variants, and like the PV5, it will only be sold as an EV, riding on the same E-GMP.S platform as its smaller sibling. This architecture allows for a flat floor, improving interior space, and will allow Kia to add more variants to the lineup in the future.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe PV7 is offered with either a 72-kWh or 96-kWh battery, both using nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry. Initial models will come in a front-wheel-drive setup, but Kia plans to add all-wheel-drive later. The PV7 will produce a maximum of 268 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque, but output will depend on the market and configuration.KiaKia says the Long Range Cargo version will be able to travel 285 miles on a charge using the European's WLTP test cycle, which would likely translate to around 240 miles using the EPA's methodology. The 800-volt architecture means the PV7 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 25 minutes on a DC fast charger. There are also two charging ports, with a front AC/DC port and an optional rear AC port. The electric powertrain also allows for vehicle-to-load capability, allowing drivers to use the van to power tools and other electronic equipment.The PV7 follows the same futuristic styling set out by the PV5, with thin daytime running lights that squiggle up the front fascia on a gloss black panel. The front end is upright and features blocky trim in the bumper, which also hides the main headlight units. The PV7 also has prominent wheel arches and chunky vertical taillights.The PV7 Cargo is offered in two- and three-seat setups and measures 210.6 inches from nose to tail in the Long configuration, essentially the same as the 2027 Ram ProMaster City, although the Kia is a bit wider and taller. The Cargo Long has up to 215 cubic feet of storage space, while the Cargo High Roof increases that to 282 cubic feet. Payload capacity is rated at 2568 pounds for the Long model, and there's a dedicated heavy-load drive mode. Customers can opt for either a twin-swing tailgate or a lift-up tailgate. The PV7 Passenger has the same dimensions but with seating for nine, although in Korea it can even fit 11 seats.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe cabin is simple and straightforward, with a 14.6-inch touchscreen mounted on the dashboard and a thin digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. The PV7 retains many physical buttons, including a row of toggles for the climate system. The PV7 also comes with the new Pleos Connect system rolling out across new Hyundai and Kia models, which is based on Android Automotive OS and is designed to feel like a smartphone interface. The system has flexible screen layouts and an open app marketplace, and there's also Gleo AI, a voice assistant that can handle vehicle, navigation, and messaging functions.The PV7 also comes with the Kia Business Solutions Portal, a software system that allows fleet managers to efficiently handle charging, maintenance, and other daily operational tasks. Kia's Uptime services also use real-time monitoring and predictive diagnostics to ease the maintenance burden and minimize disruption to the fleet.Kia says the PV7 will go on sale in South Korea and Europe starting in 2027, but more markets will be added later. Kia plans to expand the PV7 lineup to include 23 variants, with plans for a Compact version of the Cargo and Passenger, a Chassis Cab variant, and many conversion models. The PV7 will be built at the same factory in Hwaseong, South Korea, as the PV5, and Kia also aims to launch an even larger PV9 in 2029.
