Kia has unveiled the Vision Meta Turismo concept car, a design study that is set to inform the manufacturer’s vehicle design in the future. According to Kia, the Vision Meta Turismo blends dynamic driving performance with a lounge-inspired cabin, “paying homage to the speed and elegance of 1960s long-distance touring.” The manufacturer says that the concept is a modern take on three core experiences – performance driving, an immersive driving experience through digital interaction, and a capacious, lounge-inspired interior, though it has not disclosed if the Vision Meta Turismo previews a specific, upcoming production model. In terms of comparable forms, the Polestar 5 and Lotus Emeya are perhaps close to the Vision Meta Turismo silhouette, each being an EV with a fastback form. Inside, the Vision Meta Turismo features a stark, minimalist cabin with a distinct driver’s zone that gets a contrasting colour scheme, a wide steering yoke that “reimagines the next-generation intuitive driving interface”, and what appears to be either a transmission selector, or joystick, though Kia has not elaborated on the latter at this time. Three digital modes – Speedster, Dreamer and Gamer – feature in the Vision Meta Turismo, using augmented reality head-up display technology for differing environments. The AR HUD integrates smart glass into the vehicle, which will show drivers virtual graphics which appear to float in three dimensions above the road ahead, says Kia. More information on the Vision Meta Turismo will be released in the near future, says Kia. What do you think of this design?
