Image: KempowerAs early as 2024, Kempower launched its first proprietary MCS charging system for the heavy-duty sector, capable of operating at currents of up to 1,500 amperes and delivering a power output of 1.2 megawatts (MW). The first customer deployments took place in September 2025. At the time, it was suggested that the charging system would also be available in a combined version with both MCS and CCS connectors – though Kempower did not yet have such a product on the market.This is because MCS technology – short for Megawatt Charging System – still faces a classic chicken-and-egg dilemma: it has yet to see widespread adoption. Vehicle manufacturers are yet to integrate MCS connectors as standard in electric trucks, although this is expected to change soon. Conversely, there are still very few MCS charging stations available.The Finnish company has now unveiled a solution at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas with the new Kempower Mega Satellite Flex dispenser. This dispenser supports the transition to the MCS standard while also enabling charging for vehicles using the long-established CCS standard. A similar combination is already offered by competitor Alpitronic. This dual-connector approach, which features both CCS and MCS, is designed to help charging providers achieve high utilisation rates at their stations during the transition phase from CCS to MCS for electric trucks.Additionally, the Mega Satellite Flex must be connected to a Kempower Power Unit. As the name suggests, it forms part of a satellite system – just like other Kempower charging points. The maximum charging power is 1.2 megawatts with MCS or 560 kW with CCS, a power level that few vehicles currently support.Kempower CPO Jussi Vanhanen states: “We’re proud to be introducing our newest solution designed to support our customers in taking the next step toward zero-emission heavy-duty transportation.
