JSW Cement plans to use the 100 electric heavy-duty trucks to transport clinker and slag on a route spanning approximately 330 kilometres, between Vijayanagar, Karnataka, and Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh. Every month, these trucks will move an estimated 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo. Ampstar estimates that the zero-emission fleet will reduce JSW Cement’s diesel consumption in transport operations by approx. 45 million litres, saving around 6,250 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the contract period.
All 100 electric heavy-duty trucks will be Ampstar’s new 55-tonne 4×2 tractor units. The company offers this model in both fixed- and swappable battery variants, and JSW Cement has chosen the latter for this deployment. JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will set up four battery-swapping stations between Vijayanagar and Nandyal. Jagatsinghpur (Orissa)-based company Paradeep Parivahan Limited will serve as the logistics partner.
Ampstar launched the 55-tonne electric tractor in 4×2 and 6×4 variants last month. The company says this model is suitable for sidewall, tipper, skeletal, flatbed, and bulker trailers. Along with the announcement of its first commercial sale, it has revealed that both variants have received certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
At the launch of the 55-tonne electric tractor last month, Ampstar had said that it features a 420 kW motor and can be equipped with a fixed or swappable 282 kWh LFP battery that delivers a range of 140 to 150 km. In the 100 units it will supply to JSW Cement, it will use a 430 kW motor, and while it has not revealed the range of this configuration, the 10 kW higher power may only have a marginal impact on the range.
Ampstar also launched a twelve-metre electric staff bus last month, and between these first two models, it expects to be able to deliver 500 to 2,000 EVs by March 2027. The company will manufacture them at a 90-acre greenfield plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
