A $1.35 million track car is already a serious purchase. The Gunther Werks GXR-Evo makes the deal stranger and more interesting by including a racing simulator built to match the car.Based on the 993-generation Porsche 911, the GXR-Evo is Gunther Werks' most extreme naturally aspirated model. Production is limited to 15 cars worldwide. Motor1 reports that each commission starts at $1.35 million, placing it far beyond the price of a new Porsche 911 GT3 RS.This is not a restored 993 with a little more power. Gunther Werks replaces the original bodywork with carbon-fiber panels and cuts the dry weight to 2,386 pounds. The company says the GXR-Evo is 210 pounds lighter than its Coupe program. The Gunther Werks GXR-Evo Keeps Its Air-Cooled Flat-SixRothsport Racing helped develop the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, which produces 455 horsepower and revs to nearly 9,000 rpm. A slide-valve throttle system removes the usual butterfly valves from the intake path to sharpen response. Power reaches the rear wheels through a reworked Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat output may appear modest beside today's 700-hp supercars, but the low weight changes the calculation. The GXR-Evo carries roughly 5.2 pounds for every horsepower. Its straight-pipe exhaust should make the run toward 9,000 rpm difficult to ignore, too.The carbon body is shaped for track work rather than nostalgia. A deep front splitter, canards, and vented front fenders manage airflow at the nose. The rear receives a large wing, an aggressive diffuser, and a central shark fin in place of the rear window. Carbon quarter-window ducts feed air toward the engine.Gunther Werks fitted magnesium center-lock wheels, Brembo Pista racing brakes, and JRZ three-way adjustable dampers with remote reservoirs. According to Car and Driver's GXR-Evo report, the front suspension uses unequal-length control arms instead of the donor 993's original layout. Integrated air jacks make tire changes easier in the paddock. The cabin offers little weekend comfort. A single carbon-Kevlar racing seat, six-point harness, and eight-point roll cage surround the driver. A MoTeC display handles lap timing and vehicle data, while a digital mirror replaces the view lost when Gunther Werks removed the rear glass. The car even has helmet cooling and an electronic fire-suppression system.AdvertisementAdvertisementEach owner also receives a numbered MYSIM racing simulator. Its aluminum frame, carbon panels, and F1-style steering wheel echo the real car, while its setup is configured to mimic the owner's GXR-Evo.There is one unusually practical detail. Gunther Werks covers every commission with a transferable five-year or 100,000-mile warranty, including access to future upgrades. Few owners are likely to test that mileage limit, especially in a car built this closely around lap times.
