Gentlemen's Style to be Rewarded at Salon PrivéJohn keeble - Getty ImagesThis ain't no rod run/show 'n' shine/carzncaffeine! This is Salon Privé, dear boy, held in a country that still toils under the boot of monarchy, and whose class system, whilst officially abolished, is still a thing! Even business class on Virgin Atlantic is called, "Upper Class," not that I've ever been there, harrumph.Yes, Salon Privé, where there is already (I am not making this up) a competition for ladies' hats, will bring the gentlemen into the battle for best-dressed. Not that people will be looking down their noses at you for wearing a lime-green polyester leisure suit. But they will be looking down at you. Likewise, your Jeff Gordon T-shirt and torn jeans are, perhaps, not welcome. Nor your Carroll Shelby bib overalls. Your lady companion should upgrade from her Daisy Dukes, too. That won't do, Pip, that won't do.No, for you the uncouth American, or even you, the uncouth Brit, it's best to make a stop at Savile Row before attending Salon Prive. The award is sponsored by Clements + Church, a bespoke English tailor. You can look at just about any Savile Row shop, though, like Anderson & Sheppard Bespoke, "...the tailor of choice for men who wish to dress in comfortable, understated elegance," just because they use the word "bespoke" right there in the title. A proper outfit at Clements + Church starts at just £1,500, whilst Anderson & Sheppard goes for £6,400, or about a million US dollars.Anderson & Sheppard"Salon Privé, the UK's most prestigious luxury automotive event, will turn the style spotlight on its male guests for the first time this September with the launch of the Concours Style Award presented by Clements + Church," came the announcement from over the briney. "Taking place on Thursday 3 September, the Concours Style Award will celebrate exceptional men's tailoring, craftsmanship, and individual flair, applying the principles of the automotive concours to the event's male guests."AdvertisementAdvertisementSalon Privé is one of the world's great concours. It's usually one of the shows that make up the Best of the Best competition for annual concours winners, after all. Held on the grounds of Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill in Oxfordshire just west of London, Salon Privé has represented the height of British motoring luxury since its founding in 2006.The concours will be held over the course of five days, September 2-6, with a different celebration each day. Wednesday and Thursday, September 2-3 is the Salon Privé Concours judging and presentations.Salon PriveFriday, September 4, is Ladies' Day by Boodles, which concentrates on fashion and motoring and which is the day they hold the ladies' hat contest. Saturday, September 5, is Supercar Saturday & Club Trophy Day by Lockton. And Sunday, September 6, is Supercar Sunday & Lifestyle Club Trophy Day (and the grand finale). You might want to fly over early. Anderson & Sheppard requires 12 weeks for first-time customers which, doing the math here, means... OMG, you will have to buy off the rack! God Save His Majesty! Maybe use the lime green polyester one more year. But don't tell anyone you know me.
