If you've looked at the Ford Bronco lineup recently, you may have noticed that it's available in a bunch of variations. Ford sells seven different trims of the 2026 model. Most of them are the basic Wrangler fighter with different levels of equipment, and a few are quite serious performance vehicles, particularly the hulking Raptor. None of them are particularly focused on offering a truly luxurious off-road experience, though. Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz have shown that there's certainly a market for luxury off-roaders, and clearly Ford wants a piece of that. So for 2027, it's launching the classy and capable Bronco Filson.Ford Ford's Partnering With An Apparel Brand Once Again Ford has a long history of teaming up with fashion and apparel brands. For decades, it offered high-end versions of its SUVs with an Eddie Bauer-themed trim level. Eddie Bauer was a premium outdoor gear brand, one that originated in the Seattle area. This time, however, Ford decided to go with a different Seattle-area outdoor brand with an excellent reputation. Enter Filson, a company with an even longer history (back to 1897) and a connection to the U.S. Forest Service, which has lent its branding and design to Ford for this special Bronco.Ford The Ford Bronco Filson's exterior doesn't make the connection to the apparel brand obvious, but it's clear something's different about this Bronco. It has a unique egg crate grille insert not shared with any other Bronco model. That grille has a bronze painted finished, too. The rest of the SUV is mostly standard Bronco, but it features a top and fender flares that have been painted to match the body. The wheel arches are the larger version from the Sasquatch, as the Filson features 35-inch tires wrapped around unique, chunky-looking wheels.Ford At the back, the spare tire has a hard panel also painted to match the body and bearing a large Filson brand below the Bronco logo. Two exclusive colors have been added to the Filson including Field Green Metallic and and Iron Sands Copper Metallic, the latter of which is only available on the First Edition, which gets additional fender badges, a center console badge, and included Filson storage bags.Ford The interior is much more obviously Filson-related, particularly with the upholstery. The seats are upholstered in perforated and quilted leather, and the edges are finished in a fabric meant to simulate Filson's twil fabrics in its clothing. Leather in a similar color to that fabric is wrapped around the grab handles and dash top, as well the tops of the door panels.Ford Filson storage pouches also appear in the lower doors. Optional bags that the First Edition gets can be attached to the roll bar in the rear. Ford further finished the main dash panels, steering wheel trim, and drive mode selector in what it calls a brass finish, though we find it to look a bit more bronze. Either way, it fits the earthy interior nicely.Ford Ford Didn't Stop With Design Details In many ways, these visual upgrades would be sufficient for a luxury trim, but Ford has gone much further with the Bronco Filson. The most surprising change is with the powertrain. Ford opted for a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. However, as a Ford representative confirmed with us, it's not exactly the same engine as the one in the Bronco Raptor, and will have different tuning. As such, it will also have a different output, which Ford hasn't yet disclosed. At the very least, we can expect it to produce between the 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque from the 2.7-liter engine, and the 418 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of the Raptor engine.Since the Bronco Filson has 35-inch tires, it also gets some of the same equipment from the Sasquatch Package offered on other Bronco models. That includes the electronic locking front and rear differentials, off-road drive modes, Trail Turn Assist, and one-pedal off-road driving functionality. Instead of the regular Sasquatch's Bilstein shocks, though, the Filson gets Fox internal bypass shocks, suggesting this has the same, or at least a similar, suspension setup as the Stroppe Edition.Ford There's no shortage of upgraded comfort and convenience equipment in the Bronco Filson, either, which is critical for a premium model. It apparently features the most sound-deadening measures of any Bronco, combining improved seals around doors and roof panels, aerodynamic adjustments, and acoustic glass. Exclusive to the Filson are ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Ford also includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system, power running boards, and a new digital rearview mirror all as standard.Ford Ford Hasn't Priced It, But It Can't Be Cheap Naturally, the question after hearing about all these features is what the cost will be. Ford hasn't provided that answer. Considering the upgraded running gear on top of the comfort amenities, we wouldn't be surprised if it lands somewhere between $70,000 and $80,000, right between the Stroppe Edition and Raptor. That would put it in contention with fairly well-equipped examples of the Land Rover Defender and the Lexus GX. We'll likely know pricing in a few months, since Ford will start taking orders in the fall, with deliveries coming early next year. In the meantime, Ford is also launching a line of Bronco-themed apparel available through Filson stores and the Filson website. CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters: As we touched on at the start of this story, luxury off-road SUVs are a surprisingly large market, mainly dominated by Land Rover, with Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Jeep dabbling in it. It's a natural extension for Ford, as it already has a highly capable off-roader that can be made more plush fairly easily. With high prices also come high margins, so it could be a highly profitable venture for Ford, especially with easily identifiable brands including both Bronco and Filson. It's really a no-brainer in many ways.Ford will need to be somewhat careful with it's pricing, though. Even though Broncos can be optioned up to be expensive, $80,000 is pushing the limits, and some buyers may want a more prestigious badge from the competition, or the increased capability and brash image of Ford's own Raptor.2027 Ford Bronco Filson and Bronco Filson First Edition
