It was a very meriah KL Car-Free Morning (KLCFM) last Sunday, where the first-ever KLIMS Run 2026 took place. Yes, this is a pre-show event for the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS), which takes place at MITEC from June 12-21. Piggybacking on KLCFM’s blocked-off roads, the KLIMS Run had 5KM and 7KM categories and the event attracted over 1,000 runners. As it’s basically KLCFM, the run started and ended at Dataran DBKL next to Dataran Merdeka. Yours truly did the longer of the two routes and we ran down Jalan Raja Laut and made a ‘U’ into Jalan TAR before turning right into Jalan Dang Wangi at the Sogo junction. Ignored Yut Kee’s (a heritage Hainanese joint) calls for breakfast and it was on to Jalan Sultan Ismail before turning into Jalan P Ramlee to run pass KLCC. After Saloma and Renaissance, the Sultan Ismail stretch back to Jalan TAR is the least enjoyable for me (not sure why), and I picked up the pace for the final dash down KL’s old high street to finish the run. It wasn’t a timed race, so our bib numbers were only good for the lucky draw, which was surely worth the wait – for those who won. MacBook Neo main prize! As the first-ever community run introduced under the KLIMS pre-show calendar, KLIMS Run 2026 embodied the event’s ‘Beyond Mobility’ theme by bringing together automotive enthusiasts, families, fitness communities, and members of the public in a vibrant celebration of active living, community spirit, and social responsibility, show organiser Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said. At the event, MAA handed over a RM5,000 contribution to the Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Center (PUSPEN) Dengkil, a government-run rehabilitation centre under the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) that provides structured treatment, care, and rehabilitation for individuals recovering from drug dependency. “KLIMS has always been a platform that drives conversations about the future of mobility. Today, with our first-ever community run, the response was overwhelmingly positive. As lifestyles evolve, mobility must also play a role in connecting communities, supporting wellbeing, and creating shared experiences,” said Mohd Shamsor bin Mohd Zain, MAA’s president. “We are also grateful to have the opportunity to join hands with the Selangor Youth Community in helping extend our community outreach efforts through our contribution to PUSPEN Dengkil. KLIMS Run 2026 reflects this broader direction and represents our commitment to making KLIMS more engaging, accessible, and community-oriented for Malaysians,” he added. Again, KLIMS 2026 will be happening next month, June 12-21, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) – full details here. See you there! Looking to sell your car?
