The first ADAS lab that simulates extreme traffic and weather environments was completed in China. It boasts an area of 5,000 square meters, allowing testing vehicles at speeds of up to 130 km/h in heavy fog, torrential rain, and other scenarios. Changan became the first company to test its cars here. On February 11, China Central Television revealed that China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute (CMVR) completed the first “three-in-one” intelligent driving laboratory. It was put into use in Chongqing on February 9 with the Changan Nevo A06 EV sedan as the first test vehicle. This lab integrates three core elements: the whole vehicle, dynamic traffic, and simulated climate. The new laboratory is capable of simulating different fog, rain, and light scenarios. It enables large-scale, all-weather testing of intelligent cars. CMVR General Manager Fan Hailong shared that the simulated fog effect can continuously adjust visibility from 10 meters to 1 kilometer within 30 minutes. And the area of 5,000 square meters allows simulating real-world extreme traffic conditions. Due to the advanced drag system, the car’s test speed can reach 130 km/h. According to CMVR officials, it exceeds the common industry’s level of 100 km/h. The laboratory can recreate the behavioral trajectories of traffic participants, including unexpected pedestrians emerging from blind spots. It can also simulate different light levels, imitating conditions of dawn, dusk, and overcast days. CMVR is a high-tech Chongqing-based enterprise recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and other Chinese regulators. It has three sub-centers in East China, South China, and North China, a cold-region testing base in Heihe, and a few subsidiaries, serving over 2,700 corporate clients across China. A video shared by CCTV shows the Changan Nevo A06 sedan performing ADAS testing in harsh conditions. It is worth noting that Changan and BAIC are the first pair of Chinese companies to get L3 self-driving permits domestically.
