@tr4pv/InstagramA routine test run quickly turned terrifying for a Corvette driver and his passenger when the sports car caught fire while he was drifting around a track.Elijah Witcher shared footage of the frightening incident on Instagram on Friday, October 1. "Oh no, no… I didn't know I was overheating," Witcher can be seen saying as smoke began to billow from the car."Get out, get out, hurry up, get out," he repeatedly told his passenger as the Corvette continued moving. At one point, the woman jumped from the vehicle and rolled onto the track while Witcher remained behind the wheel. Flames could be seen coming from the front of the Corvette as he called out for help.@tr4pv/Instagram"I'm on fire!" he yelled from inside the vehicle.Witcher explained what happened in the incident in his caption alongside the scary clip."I pushed the car too hard and [sic] which caused me to throw a rod through the side of the block and cause a pretty big oil fire from being on my hot exhaust system, I've never been on fire so yes I did panic but the main question I've gotten is why not stop?" he wrote."Fire and EMS were ahead and I didn't want my car to burn to the ground and I knew the car wasn't gonna explode, but me panicking telling her to get out she was also scared and jumped out ( which she isn't wrong for) but I stayed in to get the car to a safe distance from everyone but also close enough for people with fire extinguishers," he continued.@tr4pv/InstagramWitcher added that it was a test run after he'd installed an angle kit days earlier, and he acknowledged that he didn't have a fire extinguisher inside the Corvette yet."We live, and we learn," Witcher said. "You will see this car running again soon."Read More From First for AutosMechanic Warns Drivers About Common Repair Scam, Dishonest Technicians: 'Thief With a Toolbox'Car Repair Costs Have Risen Nearly Twice as Much as Inflation Over the Last 7 YearsDriver Proposes to Girlfriend Just Seconds After They're Involved in Huge Car PileupThis story Corvette Driver's Passenger Narrowly Escapes Burning Vehicle During Test Run Gone Wrong first appeared on First for Autos.
