The G60 generation of the BMW 5 Series shares the same platform with its gasoline sibling, and the M60 version is the top-spec BMW i5, which is the electric version of the widely popular 5 Series. The 5 Series sits in between the smaller 3 Series and the flagship 7 Series, and has been the key player in the sedan market for decades - the i5 is the evolution of that beloved sedan. The M60 model offers performance along with all the luxury features that you would expect to see from the German manufacturer. But why would you want to buy an electric M sedan in 2026 when there are plenty of other options out there? All information has been sourced from the manufacturer, and all prices listed exclude destination fees and any offers; pricing and specs are correct at the time of writing. BW i5 M60 Design Overview 2025-bmw-i5-m60-exterior-5 Exterior: M Elements And Sporty Appeal Sharing the same platform as the gasoline 5 Series, it's easy to tell the similarities from the outside. BMW has decided to ditch the kidney grille design for the G60 5 Series, which in general makes the vehicle itself more approachable and balanced to look at from the outside. There are also small elements, such as the "i" letter on the grill along with a blue BMW badge to remind you that this is still an electric-powered BMW.As for the wheels, which grab most people's attention when they look at a vehicle, they come standard as 19-inch on the M60 model. There are also options available to upgrade to 20-inch and 21-inch wheels, which will cost you between $800 and $1800 if you want a sharper look. The color option is also something that would add to the uniqueness of your i5. Apart from the standard non-metallic white, there are also various metallic and BMW individual colors at your disposal, which will cost between $650 and $3600.We highly recommend the M Sport Professional Package ($1050) as it provides the i5 with various exterior upgrades such as M Sport Brakes, glow kidney grille, M Shadowline Lights and rear spoilers for that extra bit of touch. All in all, the i5 M60 is not as shouty as some of its M siblings, but with the fresh design of the new 5 Series along with some personalization that you can play around with, the i5 M60 is definitely a looker to behold. Interior: One Of The Best In Its Class BMWThe interior is where the i5 excels. It's mainly dominated by the curved display which stretches across the entire dashboard. The 12.3-inch gauge cluster also comes with its exclusive M animation every time you get into the driver's seat, a nice little touch to remind you that you're behind the wheel of a "M" model. The sports seats, which are available in the M60 model, also come with different upholstery options to choose from. From the base Veganza to the Merino Leather, which will cost you $2450, you will have plenty of options. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system, which is standard on the M60 model, also provides the occupants with the best sound quality while moving. Another big highlight for the interior is the BMW Interaction Bar inherited from the 7 Series, which makes the cabin of the i5 look amazing during nighttime. BMW i5 Performance: Almost M5 Numbers The One That Gets Close to the Real "M" BMW You are looking to buy a BMW M model not just for the features and looks, but also the performance as well. The i5 M60 doesn't disappoint in terms of number figures; the additional electric motor on the front axle gives the M60 an additional 257 horsepower and all-wheel drive capabilities. Combining that together, the BMW i5 M60 horsepower figure is an impressive 593 hp with 586 lb-ft of torque - 258 hp more than what the base i5 offers. It will go from 0 – 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 143 mph - in terms of acceleration, that's verging on M5 territory, which does the sprint three-tenths quicker, but uses a whopping 717 hp to do it. "No matter which i5 you drive, it feels quicker than the average 5 Series in practice because the acceleration is immediate and doesn't require a turbo to spool or a transmission to shift gears."-Jared Rosenholtz, CarBuzz, Editor-at-Large Range: On Par The M60 shares the same 84.3 kwh battery pack as its non-M siblings and can be charged at a maximum speed of 205 kw on DC chargers, 10 to 80% should take you around 30 minutes. As for the range, depending on the size of wheels you opted for, they can go between 259 miles to 277 miles on a single charge, according to the EPA. This is average for the segment, with some rivals offering more - more on that later. i5 Features And Options BMW Being the top-spec model, the M60 is packed with all the features expected of a top-tier model. On the driving side, the M60 comes as standard with Adaptive M Suspension and Variable Sport Steering, which the entry-spec i5's don't get. As for the interior, you get features such as dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, digital keys, a glass moonroof, and more. Wireless device charging Apple CarPlay/Android Auto BMW Curved Display with 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 14.9-inch central display Cloud-based navigation with augmented reality overlay BMW interaction bar with ambient lighting Multi-function comfort seats with 4-way lumbar support and memory system But if you are looking for a little bit more luxury, the Executive Package offered by BMW ($3,600) is recommended as it provides the i5 M60 with features which will elevate safety, technology and interior quality altogether in one go. BMW i5 Pricing And Competitors 2025 BMW i5 M60The base MSRP for the i5 M60 comes in at $84,100 excluding destination charges, which puts it somewhere in between its German rivals. The Mercedes-AMG EQE Sedan is more powerful with 617 hp and a faster 0-60 figure at 3.2 seconds, but it also costs over 10 grand more than the i5 M60. The newly introduced Audi S6 Sportback e-tron shares the same 0-60 time with BMW i5 M60 at 3.7 seconds, but the base MSRP comes in cheaper at $79,600. The BMW i50 M60 has xDrive all-wheel drive, as it's rivals also use each brand's proprietary AWD setup. As for range, the i5 M60 is much better than the AMG EQE, but the S6 offers the most - at the sacrifice of 50 hp. The trade-off is the cheaper price for the Audi, however, you still get the same acceleration. With a few options added to the i5 M60, pricing comes closer to the AMG EQE, which doesn't seem like great value off the bat. The Mercedes-AMG EQE Sedan is definitely the winner in this numbers game with the most horsepower and torque as well as the fastest 0–60 time, but it did come short when in terms of range and a relatively tight rear seat. The Audi S6 Sportback e-tron on the other hand, doesn't have a performance figure as impressive as the Mercedes and BMW, but it makes that up with the furthest electric range and Audi's new 800-v architecture. The i5 M60, which sits in between its German rivals, provides decent performance figures as well as efficiency. Also, being an M model which inherits the sportiness of BMW, the i5 M60 is also more fun to behind the wheel of. If you're happy to keep expenses to a minimum, however, you have a solid Bavarian sedan that will save you money at the pumps and provide some performance thrills. Used BMW i50 M60 Prices BMWIf new isn't on the table for you, you could look at buying a used BMW i5 M60, but given that there are only two model years on sale before the current one, pricing isn't particularly low. According to CarBuzz price trends for i5 models of that vintage, you could pay anywhere from $30k to over $85k for a 2024 model. Verdict: The Performance Electric Sedan To Look For In 2026 BMW Although the i5 M60 already comes with plenty of features as standard, we would still recommend a couple more options to make the ownership experience more satisfying. For the exterior, the M Sport Professional Package helps add that aggressiveness to the vehicle itself. Interior wise, as recommended above, the Executive Package offers some of the best features available and makes the journey with the i5 more pleasant than ever. But this puts the BMW i5 M60 price up closer to AMG EQE territory, where you have the best in terms of performance for a little more money. Sharing roots with the gasoline 5 Series almost guarantees the i5 M60 will be a highly competent sedan, and we have found it so from behind the wheel:"Removing the gasoline engine from the 5 Series takes what was already a luxurious car and improves it even further...The i5 is no exception, with a comfortable ride and eager performance that feels befitting of a 5 Series. Thanks to the low center of gravity provided by the battery, you can toss the i5 into corners with little body roll and burst out with instant electric torque."- Jared Rosenholtz, Editor-At-Large, CarBuzzIf you're shopping for an electric sedan with good performance credentials, decent range, and great driving feel, the BMW i5 M60 is a must-see on your test drive list. We do, however, recommend that if budget is your main concern, its Audi rival may be a better option, and - conversely - if adding a load of options onto the i5 is needed to live up to your expectations, you consider the AMG EQE.
