Gasgoo Munich- Aptiv and Comau announced on May 6 that they have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at developing next-generation intelligent automation solutions for industrial applications. Comau, meanwhile, will bring its expertise in robotics and industrial automation, along with extensive experience deploying large-scale manufacturing systems in complex production environments worldwide.The companies said the combined technology stack is intended to support more adaptive, data-driven industrial automation systems capable of operating with higher levels of intelligence and flexibility.The initial phase of cooperation will target several high-value industrial automation scenarios. One focus area will be advanced robotics, including next-generation sensing systems and computing reference architectures for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), collaborative robots (CoBot), and other autonomous operating platforms. These technologies are expected to be validated through deployment in real-world industrial settings supported by Comau.The two companies also plan to enhance warehouse and logistics automation by integrating AI and machine learning capabilities at the edge through Wind River cloud and edge technologies. The initiative is intended to strengthen Comau's Automha logistics software platform, improving real-time responsiveness, operational intelligence, and lifecycle management efficiency across logistics systems.In industrial connectivity, the partnership will explore the development of ruggedized wiring harnesses, modular miniaturized connectors, and cable assemblies tailored for demanding robotic applications that require a balance of durability, lightweight design, and high performance.Another area of collaboration will center on radar- and vision-based industrial safety systems. By combining deterministic computing with multi-zone monitoring technologies, the companies aim to improve worker safety while simultaneously lowering system complexity and deployment costs.The new agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Comau has long utilized Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system in its industrial controllers, while Aptiv has already deployed Comau robotic systems across multiple manufacturing facilities.Going forward, both sides intend to broaden the scope of collaboration to include Aptiv's wider portfolio of sensing, computing, sensor, and connectivity technologies as they pursue more integrated intelligent automation solutions for the industrial sector.
