the gti for parents 2026 vw tiguan r line turbo quick spin review ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Volkswagen is pitching the 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo as the crossover for the GTI owner with kids. I'm not sure I would go that far, but borrowing the GTI's spunky turbocharged four-cylinder engine is a good start. I tested the third-generation Tiguan with the 2.0-liter four making 268 hp (67-hp more than standard base four-cylinder) that teams with an eight-speed automatic and VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive. The nicely equipped compact SUV stickered for $44,560, including destination charges, and featured many of the amenities of a more expensive Audi. I enjoyed the heated and ventilated front seats with massagers, leather-wrapped steering wheel and the panoramic sunroof. This model also rolls on 20-inch wheels, gets LED lights, and R-line bumpers and trim. This trim is the most powerful and expensive Tiguan, which means you're treading near Audi territory. The S and SE trims, which start in the low $30,000 range, are much more value-oriented. That said, the Tiguan R-Line Turbo does a nice job of looking and feeling the part of a premium German crossover, and benchmarking it against Audi and BMW, it's a decent deal. VW executives predict the R-Line will make up at least 15-percent of Tiguan sales. TRANSCRIPT: "Hey everybody, it's Greg Migliore, welcome inside the Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo. This is a top-line trim, comes in at about $44,560. Very nice place. You get the touchscreen up top here, it's pretty big, very usable, I like that. This car has massages. Come on out over here, you got the really nice, sort of like I call it, open-pore wood, almost like in a Volvo. Leather-like material, some stitching. Come on out over here. This is meant, Volkswagen says, for the Volkswagen owner who maybe had a GTI who grows up and needs a crossover. It's got the 268-horsepower turbocharged engine. I've spent the morning driving it here. A lot of room here for the center stack, for the cup holders. Good room in there. It's a nice place to spend time, I like it. It's a peppy drive, it's composed on twisty roads, good steering. That is the Volkswagen Tiguan with the turbocharged engine. That's the SEL R-Line Turbo." 2026 Ford F-150 Raptor: All the Details
