Xpeng Motors plans to launch two new models and expand the line-up to six electric vehicles in 2023. One of the launches will be a mid-size SUV reportedly called Xpeng G5 (codename: Xpeng F30), a potential Tesla Model Y rival that could also arrive in Europe by 2024.
Design
Road-testing of the five-seat electric SUV is underway, spy images from China have revealed. The upcoming model has a signature ‘X Robot’ face for a minimalist look. Slim DRLs separately mounted on the top, a covered, smooth nose section, and raked A-pillars, are evidently visible.
The design of the side profile resulting from the curvy greenhouse and sloping roofline makes the G5 reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y. However, the rear-end appears to be relatively upright, meaning the G5 won’t look anything like a sedan. Flush-fitting door handles are seen in early test mules, but they’ll likely be pull-type units, and not electronically-operated.
