Keen on a Venue but not sure which model hits the sweet spot? We look at the model lineup in SA to help you choose the right one.
The Venue has been doing remarkably well in the sales department – that 7-year warranty and the brand’s large dealer footprint are definitely helping to seal multiple deals across our land. It seems to be exactly what South Africans want: Good-looking, compact but not cramped, well-priced, and well-specified.
Engine choices are as follows; there’s a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine and the rest are all 1.0-litre turbocharged units. Choosing the perfect model largely depends on three things: Budget, personal preference, and lifestyle.
1. Venue 1.2 Motion, R270 900
If you’re just going to be driving around the urban jungle and you’re mostly budget-driven, the entry-level Venue 1.2 Motion (with 61kW) at R270 900 will be fine, albeit a little underpowered, but it has a (5-speed) manual gearbox which isn’t ideal in heavy traffic situations if your right leg tends to get tired. It has two airbags, a multifunction steering wheel, a USB port, Bluetooth, rear-park distance control, child locks and ABS with EBD.
2. Venue 1.0T Fluid, R363 900
If you have another R30 000 lying about, the Hyundai Venue 1.0T Fluid at R363 900, is your girl. The turbocharger ensures that you have 88 kiloWatt’s worth of power and 175 Nm of torque from the 3-cylinder engine. You still get only two airbags though, but now you also get a touchscreen and rearview camera. The gearbox is still a manual (of the 6-speed variety).
3. Venue 1.0T Motion auto, R369 900
The Hyundai Venue 1.0T Motion auto is priced at R369 900, and in my opinion, it’s the best-value buy if you’re counting pennies but feel you MUST have an automatic. Now you have the 7-speed DCT gearbox at your disposal which really makes daily life easier. You still have only 2 airbags though and you also get the rearview camera and all the specs in the Fluid model, of course.
4. Venue 1.0T Fluid auto, R398 900
Next up is the Hyundai Venue 1.0T Fluid auto. Now you have six airbags, cruise control, and partial leather seats as well. This model retails for R398 900.
5. Venue 1.0T Glide, R432 900
The flagship model, the Hyundai Venue 1.0T Glide retails for R432 900. In this model, hill-start assist, climate control, a heated rear screen, electric-fold mirrors, daytime running lamps, front fog lamps, and roof rails are part of the package.

Verdict
The Hyundai Venue 1.0T Motion auto gets my vote as the best all-rounder in this line-up, but if you don’t mind the manual gearbox, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t opt for the 1.0T Fluid at R6000 less.
