BAIC is still a young automaker here in SA, There rival on the scene on 2017 came with massive investment but a small dealer footprint and slow sales have dampened delivery somewhat. We take look at the first model to make landfall and see how it has fared value wise since 2017
Better than expected
BAIC made quite a splash with their 2017 arrival, announcing an 11 billion rand investment in the local auto industry with its assembly plant in Coega. The first cars off the line were the Smart ForFour-styled D20 models.
There were originally two derivatives with two engine and transmission options available but as time has gone on BAIC has dropped these in favor of the much more popular X25 SUV model.BAIC didn’t seel many of the D20 models, so sales data is hard to come by but after sufficient trawling we managed to find a few models for sale locally and can now show what time of depreciation each derivative has experienced.

Verdict
After crunching the numbers it is plain to see that the entire D20 range has lost 50% of its value since its 2017 inception. The Auto Hatchback in Fashion trim has lost the least over time and as much as it is, is a small win from a brand with a small footprint.
