The Mazda brand has fallen from mind for many consumers, but they still have a cult following here in SA. We take a look at their current offerings to see which model is the cheapest.
Scaled down
Over the last few years, it would appear that Mazda South Africa has scaled back operations somewhat reducing their vehicle offerings to just 6 models.
As per their website, there are just 6 models listed, covering 1 model in select segments, with the focus being on hatchbacks, crossovers, and utility vehicles.
Sedans and sports cars seem to have gone the way of the Dodo and are now only available on the second-hand market. As the prices of second-hand vehicles vary greatly we decided to take a look at their current offerings to determine which new Mazda is the cheapest.
Mazda 2
The entry-level city car is a great entry point into Mazda ownership, offering great value for money for a beautiful city hatch.
Price: R 289 100
Mazda 3
The 3 has been a popular left-field choice in the C segment, offering plenty of tech and luxury in a crowded segment.
Price: R 403 500
Mazda CX-3
Mazda’s foray into the crossover market resulted in the CX-3, all the great tech from the 3 hatch but with extra room for activities
Price: R 373 400
Mazda CX-30
Being something of a split personality, the CX-30 has all the room and tech of the CX-3 but has even more rear room for a growing family
Price: R 476 000
Mazda CX-5
The CX-5 is a brilliant entry in the mid-size SUV segment. Gorgeous styling, high-end interior fitment and stunning tech in the Akera model will leave you completely satisfied.
Price: R 493 100
Mazda BT50
The BT-50 has been an underdog contender in the double-cab segment, unfortunately, the offering has fallen short over the last few years and the latest model doesn’t seem to have changed that trajectory.
Price: R 621 100

Verdict
As can be seen from the above model pricing, the Mazda2 hatch is the cheapest new Mazda that you can buy. A search of the AutoTrader website reveals that used units vary greatly, but one can assume that a used CX can fall into the same category.
