As often as we hear about manufacturers cutting down on carbon emissions and reducing fuel consumption, there's still a healthy appetite for performance cars. Vehicles that blow your hair back, get your pulse racing and thrill you every time you drive them. That's why the Audi RS division is still in business.
Audi is no stranger to motorsports. They’ve enjoyed success in nearly all forms of the sport and in many formulas including the World Rally Championship, Pikes Peak, IMSA GTO, Transam, DTM Touring Cars and endurance series’ like the prestigious Le Mans. The list is long and extensive and they will be hoping to add to that in the near future with an entry into the pinnacle of circuit racing, Formula 1, in the coming years.
Audi shares this knowledge and experience of building fast cars that stop, turn and go like race cars with their road car customers in the form of their high-performance division, RS. The RS brand has a long history and has been known by a few other names as well but it was in 1994 when the RS2 was launched that the brand truly took flight.
Current Audi RS models
Audi currently has 13 high-performance models under the RS division that includes the two versions of the popular R8 sports car. The RS range includes ‘hot’ versions of the A3, A4, A5, A6, and A7 as well as performance-orientated versions of the Q3 and Q8 crossover and SUV offerings. Let’s not forget about the most powerful RS offering produced to date, the Audi RS e-tron GT! The cheapest Audi RS that you can currently buy is the RSQ3 quattro which retails with a base price of R1 243 800 before options. If you’re in the market for an RS model, check out some of the best deals that we could find on AutoTrader here.
The Audi RSQ3 is fitted with a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 294 kW and 480 Nm torque, sending power to all four wheels and helping it sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in only 4.5 seconds. That’s one quick crossover! It will top out at an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h but the optional Driver’s Pack will see that increased to 280 km/h.
