Fancy new badge is a throwback to the brand’s original 1919 oval
Citroen has an all-new logo inspired by its first ever oval-shaped effort from 1919.
The new logo gets the familiar deux chevrons that were inspired by the success of André Citroën’s first company – a metalworking firm that produced chevron-shaped herringbone gear systems. Nice pub fact for you there.
There’s a new typeface underneath the oval too, and Citroen says that this new branding will debut at the end of September on a new concept car, before being rolled out across its range from mid-2023.
It’s simple in order to enhance its appearance ‘in the digital environment’, but it’ll also be used on merch, all Citroen documentation, dealerships and corporate building signage. It arrives with a new tagline too – “Nothing Moves Us Like Citroën”.
The new brand identity will see a pair of new car colours too. One (Monte Carlo Blue) is inspired by a heritage colour that Citroen used on the 2CV and the DS, while a new ‘Infra-Red’ will apparently be “more energetic and distinctive”.
“As we embark on probably the most exciting chapter in our illustrious 103-year history, the time is right for Citroën to adopt a modern and contemporary new look,” said Citroen boss Vincent Cobée.
“Our new identity is an elegant symbol of progress as we move our customers physically in daring, forward-looking vehicles that challenge traditional industry rules, and emotionally by ensuring their entire experience – particularly going electric – is more affordable, comfortable, and enjoyable whatever their wants and needs.”
