Cars and anime go hand in hand as much as any Hollywood film with strong family values. Just like the Fast and Furious franchise, one anime stands out among car enthusiasts. Initial D was a seminal series that introduced the world to the most legendary tofu delivery car, the Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno.
The and its twin, the are considered the spiritual successors to the tofumobile and the Toyota is set to be the main protagonist of another motorsports-inspired anime led by the creator of Initial D, MF Ghost.
Takumi Fujiwara uses an Impreza later on in Initial D, so the WRX's representation is quite spot on
Not content to let the GR86 hog the glory, Subaru’s motorsports and tuning arm, STI launched a couple of short commercials called “STI CarToon” to promote parts and accessories for the BRZ and the WRX.
The artwork style is very similar to the famous anime that follows the drifting adventures of a tofu delivery boy. In the videos, a lone BRZ or WRX drives aggressively around a mountain road but not too aggressively that it goes sideways.
Keeping up with the shonen anime trope, the Japanese sound effects and title cards remain throughout most of the video. Shame that there isn’t enough Eurobeat in the videos.
Both cars show off their aerodynamic packs which include side skirts, a front under spoiler and a massive rear wing for the BRZ. STI also offers handling enhancements including stiffer front and rear suspension bars as well as a performance muffler.
These parts are only available in Japan for now but then again both the all-new BRZ and WRX aren’t officially launched in Malaysia yet. However, Subaru’s local distributor, TC Subaru confirmed that both performance Scoobys will be arriving in Malaysia alongside the Outback and the Levorg which will be badged as the WRX Wagon here.
