Rare? Only one of three. Expensive? Rumoured to cost around $17 million (R300 million). Painful to watch? Get the tissues out after a V12 Zonda HP Barchetta gets tangled with a Ford Fiesta on a narrow road in Croatia.
Functional artwork can be a phrase used to describe the creations born in the mind of Horacio Pagani. The iconic styling coupled with the 6,0-litre V12 motor makes a Zonda or Huayra highly sought after. Their exclusivity is also second to none so as expected, limited editions of a Zonda; like this HP Barchetta, are only expected to cost obscene amounts of money.

Unfortunately, one of only three open-top models from the Zonda suffix suffered a cruel fate during a Supercar Owners Circle event taking place in Croatia. A video of the supercars taking to the route shows nothing out of the ordinary, including an equally rare Apollo IE moving down a narrow street. As the Italian marvel starts to pick up speed, the rear end kicks out and the tank slapper gravitates it in the direction of the Ford Fiesta which is part of an oncoming stream of cars.

In a matter of seconds, millions of Rands of damage was done to both vehicles but fortunately, no one was injured. The embedded YouTube video below shows the entire ordeal unfolding but we can only hope that the rare HP Barchetta is given a second lease on life.
Fortunately, Pagani is in the business of restoring its products to original factory specifications if desired by owners. The program known as Rinascimento affords the few owners of these exclusive vehicles with the opportunity to re-specify their models or spruce them up to their original specifications without losing authenticity.
