While sceptics have doubted whether these two functioning models exist in the real world from all of the media hype, Hyundai have just released driving footage of the N Vision 74 and RN22e sharing a racetrack. It looks highly convincing but this may also be digitally augmented. Regardless, hopes remain high that these concepts not only physically exist but will usher in a new, exciting era for passion filled mobility.
Compliments of the Hyundai N Worldwide YouTube channel, both vehicles which have been touted as “rolling labs” are shown in a pure driving video devoid of any narration. There may not be any exhaust sound overlaid above the music, but each of the concept cars has a distinctive tune to them.
Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Division at Hyundai Motor stated: “RN22e and N Vision 74 play an important role in the strategic development of our entire product lineup, especially our electrified, high-performance vehicles.” The vehicles which dabble in future mobility and powertrains signify “rolling labs” and “represent the continuous development of our most advanced technologies. This unique approach makes us ready for the challenges of the future by empowering us to push ourselves to the limit.”
The RN22e is based on the existing IONIQ 6 EV which utilises Hyundai’s signature Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Instead of its standard counterpart, this hot N version makes use of a 430 kW AWD powertrain which is the same on the Kia EV6 GT. The N Vision 74 is a little bit more complicated of the two since it combines hydrogen with electric power. We’re not sure if engineers in Korea are taught that water and electricity don’t mix but it certainly works in this case since it has a combined 500 kW output to match those deadly, retro-inspired looks.
Considering the Hyundai N brand which is steeped in motorsport, is only less than a decade old, it is highly commendable for the distance they have come in such a short period of time. With their first production road car being the Hyundai i30N in 2017, we hope the hype generated from the N Vision 74 and RN22e Concept mean that they will be added to their portfolio in the near future!
