If you are planning to buy a Volkswagen Taigun SUV or a Volkswagen Virtus sedan, the next 9 days is probably the better time as the German automaker has announced a 2 per cent price hike, effective from October 1. Volkswagen claims that the upcoming price hike is due to the recent increase in the input cost.

Thanks to the launch of the Volkswagen Taigun SUV and Volkswagen Virtus sedan, the German automaker has been able to gain some lost market share. However, the upcoming price hike is highly unlikely to help the automaker boost its sales figures in the country.

That being said, both the Volkswagen Taigun SUV and the Volkswagen Virtus sedan come under the German automaker’s India 2.0 business strategy, and are also built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform.

Thanks to the above-mentioned MQB-A0 IN platform, the Volkswagen Virtus is the biggest sedan in its segment measuring 4,561mm long, 1,752mm wide, and 1,507mm tall. Moreover, the German sedan also sports a best-in-class wheelbase of 2,651mm.

While the 6-speed manual transmission and the 7-speed DSG gearbox can be specified with the Volkswagen Taigun SUV equipped with the 1.5 TSI engine, the same doesn’t hold true for the Volkswagen Virtus sedan as the 1.5 TSI engine in the Virtus sedan comes exclusively mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.

At present, the Volkswagen Virtus sedan prices start from Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base Comfortline variant, whereas the base variant of the Volkswagen Taigun SUV is almost Rs 18,000 more expensive.

Thoughts About Volkswagen India’s Upcoming Price Hike

While Volkswagen India has stated the unavoidable ‘rising input costs’ as the reason for the upcoming 2 per cent price hike, we doubt the upcoming festive season to be a part of the decision behind the price hike.
