New base model arriving Q3 2023 priced from $35,990 (before on-road costs)
The ‘people’s car company’ has responded to cost-of-living pressures by revealing a new cut-price base-model Volkswagen T-Roc CityLife small SUV, with first deliveries in September.
By introducing the new special edition CityLife grade with a price of $35,990 (before on-road costs), Volkswagen will effectively lower the price of entry for the T-Roc by $1110.
Volkswagen has confirmed the T-Roc CityLife special edition is coming to Australia
The T-Roc competes against the Mazda CX-30 (from $30,210) and Kia Seltos (from $29,500) in the “SUV Small under $45,000” class in the Australian market. Last month, the MG ZS was the best-selling vehicle in this segment with 1588 sales. The T-Roc sold 679.
What does the T-Roc CityLife include?
Utilising a 1.4-litre turbocharged inline-four producing 110kW and 250Nm, the T-Roc CityLife comes with cloth seats, 17-inch wheels and an 8.0-inch central touchscreen infotainment display with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Niceties such as a leather steering wheel and important safety features like reversing AEB are included
The standard equipment list also includes digital instrument display, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, leather steering wheel and a full suite of advanced safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) in forward and reverse.
Mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic, the 1.4-litre delivers a claimed fuel economy of 6.3L/100km in the Style with its larger 18-inch wheels – although a Volkswagen Australia spokesperson said the economy would be the same.
Supply of the T-Roc continues to be strong
The only available option on the T-Roc CityLife will be $700 premium metallic paint.
Volkswagen Australia assured Chasing Cars that supply was plentiful – meaning shorter delivery times – as T-Roc sales surge, the model representing the “star of the range” said a spokesperson.
The CityLife will sit below the current $37,100 T-Roc Style. Orders are open now.
