The Vietnamese brand VinFast is set to take over the European market. A plan guided by former Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller, who has built an appealing variety of cars to help the company make the biggest significant leap in its recent history. In 2022, there will be a European premiere.
The upcoming CES 2022, which will take place in Las Vegas at the start of the new year, will be a watershed moment for the Vietnamese business VinFast. It will showcase five new models at the huge electronics fair, three of which have never been seen before and have been designed for segments A, B, and C, all of which are likely to be electric. The VF e35 and VF e36, which will be the first two to arrive in Europe, are the only two remaining.
The newly formed Asian company is run by a real European market expert. This is Michael Lohscheller, the former CEO of Opel, who is in charge of a new strategy to compete with generalist brands’ zero-emission cars, including the one he represented for so long, with two models that will be merged into the sectors D and E. All have a modern and beautiful design direct from the Pininfarina design studio, as well as European technology from companies like AVL, Bosch, Magna Steyr, and ZF.
Since they were initially revealed just under two months ago, these intentions have remained unchanged. Neither have the markets in which they will debut for the first time changed. VinFast’s will be released in the United States, and in Europe, they will be published simultaneously in France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The company has revealed that the Old Continent debut would take place towards the end of 2022, with the first units arriving in mid-2022.
VinFast has also revealed that the sales network would be expanded to additional Western European nations during 2023, although the exact locations are being kept a secret for the time being. What we do know is that the company will follow Tesla’s marketing strategy, which includes an online sales system with delivery made in tiny facilities, obviating the need for a network of traditional dealerships. As the landing approaches the market, the company will provide additional information regarding the after-sales service.
In theory, customers will be able to choose between two models: the VF e35 and the VF e36. Both have a cutting-edge interior design that is dominated by cutting-edge connection technology, with a huge touch screen in the center console.
The first will be available in two versions: one with a single front engine (150 kW, 204 hp) and one with two engines (one added to the back axle and all-wheel drive). The battery in this vehicle will be 90 kWh, with a maximum range of 500 kilometers. The motor arrangement will be the same in the second, but the battery capacity will increase to 106 kWh, providing around 550 kilometers of maximum autonomy.
