Malaysia is slowly moving towards the endemic phase in our nation’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic – and we’ve already taken the first step by reopening our interstate borders a couple of months back to encourage more locals to travel within the country.
With that being said, we’re still not past the pandemic just yet, and many Malaysians are understandably concerned about their financials, especially with the ever-present uncertainties these days. So in the spirit of kita jaga kita, we partnered-up with Shell to find out how we can make every cent count, in the best way we know how – driving.
And we’ve got just the perfect weapons to take on this challenge: two identical (aside from colour… obviously) all-new Nissan Almera Turbo VLTs, both powered by the same thrifty 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
On top of its incredible efficiency, outputting 100 hp and 152 Nm from just a one-litre capacity engine, the engine cylinders also come with a “Mirror Bore Coating” technology taken from the venerable R35 Nissan GT-R that helps reduce friction inside the engine.
We ran both cars down to their last drop of remaining fuel, before filling them both up with just RM50 worth of Shell’s FuelSave 95. The challenge? See how many tourist spots we can travel to without running out of petrol.
And just for a bit of fun, both cars will actually be heading in different directions – GC and Hanli in the red Almera will be travelling down south to Port Dickson, while Eu Jin and Janny will head East, up the hill to Genting Highlands.
The new Shell FuelSave 95 is specifically formulated to help reduce fuel consumption, with up to 90% reduction in friction within the engine to give you extra savings in your wallet. The new formulation also helps reduce engine deposit formation by up to 95%, while at the same time also help protect the engine from wear and corrosion.
