With about 40,000 bookings in two months, there is no doubt about the popularity of the all-new 2022 Perodua Alza. It is the cheapest seven-seater MPV you can get in Malaysia and comes with a plausible set of advanced safety features.
Compared to the first-generation Alza, the 2022 Perodua Alza has a much more imposing design that mimics MPVs of larger sizes. Built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, it is siblings to the Daihatsu Xenia and the Toyota Avanza which are sold in Indonesia. Unlike the previous Alza which was closer to the Passo/Boon Myvi, the all-new Alza is closer to the Ativa.
Powering the 2022 Perodua Alza is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine paired with a CVT. The maximum power output is rated at 106 hp while the maximum torque is rated at 138 Nm. In its heaviest form, the ‘AV’ variant, the Alza weighs a total of 1,170 kg. How does it drive? You’ll have to watch our video to find out!
Inside, the Alza offers decent space for seven people. It also offers several seating configurations to suit your needs. Although much plusher than the previous-generation Alza, we do have some gripes with certain things that are explained in the video.
Offered in three variants, the prices of the 2022 Perodua Alza are RM 62,500 for the ‘X’ variant, RM 68,000 for the ‘H’ variant, and RM 75,500 for the ‘AV’ variant. Perodua’s ‘Gear Up’ kit for the Alza costs RM2,500, and even with that added on, the price of the Alza still sits comfortably below RM 80,000.
Safety features of the Perodua Alza are bundled in Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A.). This entails Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Pedal Misoperation Control, Front Departure Alert, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Control (LKC), and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM).
