In Europe, wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has ordered more than 100 VW ID. Buzz Cargo. The first examples of the electric model were already put into service in February 2023. The electric combi vans will be used for the service and maintenance of Vestas wind turbines in Denmark and northern Germany.
In addition to the fleet of the ID. Buzz Cargo into Vestas’ service fleet, Vestas and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have initiated a partnership that extends beyond the boundary of the electric van order. The two sides intend to cooperate on electrified transport solutions stating that they want to further accelerate the decarbonisation of the Vestas service fleet.
While the ID. Buzz Cargo is based on the passenger car version ID. Buzz, it brings its own specific fetures from the van sector. Usually this equation goes the other way round and passenger car minivans are based on commercial vans. This approach means the ID. The wind turbine manufacturer says it will add electric vehicles to its service fleets in other European markets, such as France and Spain, in the coming months. In North America, Vestas recently ordered more than 300 units of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup. According to the company, Vestas is present in 87 countries with 164 GW of installed wind turbines.
