The MG ZS EV – an electric SUV – was the second best-selling EV in Australia last year. This year, an updated model is on its way with a longer range, and reports from these updated EV model holders and MG dealers reveal that the first batch of these EVs is in the country.
The Driven approached a MG dealer to get an update on the MG ZS EV for order holders and they confirmed that the updated ZS EVs are in the country. These would be available at the dealers as demos over the coming weeks.
The dealership also advised us that their MG ZS EV customers with pre-orders will be contacted over the coming days with an update. Any other customers interested in seeing the updated model in person will also be able to view it at the dealership within the next 2 weeks.

Originally, these cars with a longer range of 320km were expected to land in the country in July. Customers were advised of a delay last month and a date of later in the year was provided by MG Australia.
Now these EVs are here and should start to be delivered by early September for pre-order holders. That’s been well received by many interested customers.
One customer said: “The EV’s have arrived in Melbourne and just waiting for them to arrive at the dealer. So happy.”
Hundreds of pre-orders on MG ZS EV
The news of the new MG ZS EVs landing at our shores is quite exciting for hundreds of pre-order holders. Some of these customers paid a deposit as far back as February this year.
Within 6 months, the first batch of the updated EVs are now here. Just as a comparison, many order holders for various Toyota Rav4 Hybrid variants are waiting over 12 months for delivery of their car. An added bonus for the MG ZS EV owners will be not having to visit a petrol station after their cars arrive.

The range with two variants come under $50,000 driveaway mark. The base Excite variant starts at $46,990 driveaway while the top model Essence is $49,990 driveaway.
The MG ZS EV will form an important part of the EV transition in Australia. We desperately need more affordable EVs and MG along with BYD will be leading the charge.
With thousands of EVs under $50,000 heading to our shores in the coming months, it’s going to start a trend that’s unlikely to go backwards.
