Eager customers can place their order for the new sports car now… for when it arrives in 2026
- Hard-top convertible
- Dual-motor setup produces 872bhp
- Due to arrive in 2026
Volvo’s electric and performance brand Polestar has announced that it will be making an all-electric sports car, dubbed the Polestar 6. Due to arrive in 2026, this ‘halo’ car for the Polestar range will get a convertible hard-top and a striking design.
The Polestar 6 is set to join a growing lineup of electric sports cars, including the forthcoming MG Cyberster and Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. Eager buyers wishing to secure a build slot can make their reservation now, despite it not being ready for production until 2026. Exact pricing is yet to be announced, but Polestar says the ‘6’ will cost over £150,000 when it goes on sale.
As we can see from the concept images, the Polestar 6 will look drastically different to the brand’s first sports car, the Polestar 1. At the front, the LED daytime running lights will be split into two segments, resembling the brand’s ‘polar star’ logo, whereas a light bar at the rear will emphasise the car’s width.
On the inside, the ‘6’ will get the brand’s signature portrait-style infotainment setup which is powered by Google software. The concept suggests that the convertible Polestar 6 will have room enough to seat four, just like the upcoming hybrid Porsche 911.
Polestar has confirmed the new ‘6’ will sit on the same underpinnings as its upcoming sport saloon, the Polestar 5. Like that car, the ‘6’ roadster will come fitted with dual electric motors, providing all-wheel-drive grip and a total output of 872bhp.
From a standstill, the Swedish electric sports car will be able to reach 62mph in just 3.2 seconds; while this does sound impressive at face value, rivals such as the more-practical Porsche Taycan Turbo S can manage the sprint in just 2.8 seconds. Regardless, the Polestar 6 will continue to accelerate towards a top speed of 155mph.
Further technical details will be revealed closer to the car’s expected launch in 2026. As with the aforementioned Polestar 5, the ‘6’ will likely have a range of around 300 miles – Polestar deems fitting a larger battery with a longer range as superfluous and not in-keeping with its focus on sustainability.
What we do know at this stage, however, is that a special-edition ‘LA Concept’ model will be available at launch. This will pay homage to the original Polestar O2 concept and get exclusive ‘Sky Blue’ paintwork as well as a light leather interior and a set of model-specific 21-inch alloy wheels.
