An R32 and an R34 will be up for auction at Bonhams' Amelia Island auction next month.
Next month, Bonhams will hold its Amelia Island auction on March 2, and included among the lots are two different versions of the Skyline GT-R. The current Nissan GT-R is an icon in its own right, but the R32 and the R34 listed here are arguably the most prized iterations of the legendary Japanese sports car.
The first is known as “the very last Godzilla,” as it is an R32-based race car that won the final Japanese Touring Car Group A championship race. While many other Skylines campaigned in Group A have been either restored or modified for the following years' JGTC series, this particular example has been kept in original, as-raced condition.
This brightly colored Group A 'BP Trampio' racecar was campaigned at one point by Tom Kristensen, who holds the record for the most Le Mans victories (nine). The car was bought by its current owner in 1996 and has since been kept maintained. However, it has been used. After 25 years of storage in a museum, the current owner took it back to the track, wrapping the magnesium BBS wheels in new race tires for a jaunt on Fuji Speedway in 2021. Remarkably, the engine in here is the same one the car raced with in 1993. The AWD car produces 600 horsepower and is expected to fetch between $375,000-$475,000.
The second Skyline GT-R is a unique R34 V-Spec N1 'Mine's Tribute.' As the rarest, most powerful, fastest, and lightest production R34 GT-R, the N1 is not a race car but is just as legendary – only 56 N1 versions of the R34 were sold to the public. Since most were sold to racing teams and tuning shops, finding a well-preserved street version is tricky. However, this particular example is not stock either. As hardcore JDM fans have already noticed, this has been built as a part-for-part recreation of the Mine's Motorsport N1 demo car and has been featured in various international publications. But if you want all the original stuff, those parts are included too, and none of the modifications are irreversible. Best of all, the NHTSA last year approved a petition for Show or Display eligibility. The car is tuned to 650 hp on 100 octane fuel, but given the long list of parts fitted, we're sure you could comfortably exceed that with a little creativity. The tribute is expected to fetch $400,000-$500,000.
