The Triumph Tiger 1200 has been finally launched in India and the adventure tourer packs the capability one would be looking for in an ADV. The Tiger 1200 is available in four variants – GT Pro and Rally Pro as well as GT Explorer and Rally Explorer. The GT range is for those who are looking to spend more time on the tarmac and cover longer distances, while the Rally range is for those who prefer having fun when the tarmac ends. Compared to its predecessor, the Tiger 1200 has seen comprehensive upgrades that make it more capable than ever and the pricing seems attractive starting at ₹ 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India). But how attractive are these prices when compared with other adventure offerings in the segment? Let’s take a look.

Triumph Tiger 1200 vs BMW R 1250 GS
The Tiger 1200 also competes with the extremely capable BMW R 1250 GS in the segment. The motorcycle remains the gold standard for many in the premium ADV segment. The boxer engine offers impressive power and the dynamics are well-sorted when it comes to handling the nearly 250 kg motorcycle. There are plenty of electronics too including adaptive cornering lights hill-start control Pro, integral ABS Pro, TPMS and more. On the pricing front, the R 1250 GS commands a premium with a sticker price of ₹ 20.55 lakh, while the off-road-ready R 1250 GS Adventure will set you back by ₹ 22.50 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom India. That does leave the Tiger 1200 to have an advantage on the pricing front with even the top models undercutting the BMW ADV.

The Pan America 1250 is Harley-Davidson’s first-ever attempt at an ADV and the motorcycle does comes close to being near-perfect in what it’s supposed to do. The adventure tourer gets the distinctive Harley styling coupled with impressive touring ability and off-road ride-ability. The 1250 cc Revolution Max V-Twin engine develops 150 bhp at 8,750 rpm and 128 Nm of peak torque and power output is nearly on par with the Tiger 1200’s 148 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Interestingly, the Pan America 1250 undercuts the Tiger 1200 by a decent margin with the standard variant priced at ₹ 18.25 lakh, while the Pan America 1250 Special with all the bells and whistles is more expensive at ₹ 23.09 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Harley adventure offering does pack a host of electronic aids including ABS, traction control, Hill Hold Control, a semi-active front and rear suspension with a dedicated off-road mode and the unique Adaptive Ride Height feature.

The Ducati Multistrada V4 is arguably one of the best motorcycles in the segment that money can buy. It was also crowned the 2022 carandbike Premium Adventure Motorcycle of the Year at the carandbike awards. The bike is fast, commanding, extremely fun and loaded to the gills with some impressive suite of electronics. On the pricing front, the standard Multistrada V4 is priced at ₹ 19.75 lakh, while the more capable Multistrada V4 S is priced at ₹ 24.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The entry-level Tiger 1200 GT Pro undercuts the standard Multistrada V4 by about ₹ 56,000 with a price of ₹ 19.19 lakh, while the top-spec Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer is priced at ₹ 21.69 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom India. The Tiger 1200 certainly has the edge when it comes to pricing with the top-spec model packing a 30-litre fuel tank, blind-spot radar system, Lane Change Assist feature and a semi-active rear monoshock suspension in the top-spec version. Compared to the Multistrada V4 S, the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer is a good ₹ 2.46 lakh cheaper.
