Triumph Launches 3 Variants Of Street Triple Naked Motorcycle In Malaysia

Three variants of the new Triumph Street Triple naked motorcycle has been launched by Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd (the official importer, distributor and custodian of the Triumph motorcycle brand in Malaysia), that is the Street Triple S, Street Triple R (LRH or Low Ride Height version), and Street Triple RS. The Street Triple R seat is mounted 30 mm lower than the standard seat, and is also slightly shorter than the other 2 variants (2,045 mm vs 2,065 mm). The whole Street Triple range is fully imported from Thailand where this iconic British motorcyle brand has manufacturing facilities (as opposed to just assembly facilities). The entry-level Street Triple S is available in Diablo Red and Phantom Black and is priced at RM 52,900; the Street Triple R (LRH) has 3 colors – Crystal White, Phantom Black and Matte Silver Ice, priced at RM 59,900, and the range-topping Street Triple RS comes in either Matte Silver Ice or Phantom Black (metallic), at RM 66,900.

The new Street Triple has been extensively redesigned with more aggressive looks and features daytime running lights (for the R and RS only) that are 28 times brighter than the previous generation’s bulb sidelight. Other updated features include new inner and outer radiator cowls, new front and rear mudguards, and new rear body panels. The Street Triple RS also comes with a lower chain guard, color-coded belly pan as well as color-coded pillion seat cowl with interchangeable pillion seat.

Also applicable on just the Street Triple R and RS are a new intuitive 5-way joystick control and an advanced adjustable 5″ TFT display which offer 4 different layout themes; the S variant gets an updated LCD instrument screen which shows the trip meter, fuel gauge and odometer. Powering the Malaysian variants of the Street Triple is the 765 cc Daytona-derived triple cylinder (hence the name), 12-valve, liquid-cooled DOHC engine in different levels of tune. The Street Triple S has output of 111 bhp @ 11,250 rpm and 73 Nm of torque @ 9,100 rpm; the R gets 116 bhp @ 12,000 rpm and 77 Nm @ 9,400 Nm; and the RS has 121 bhp @ 11,700 rpm and 77 Nm @ 10,800 rpm.

The power is managed by a new ECU that offers different riding modes. The S gets 2 riding modes i.e. rain & road, with ABS and Triumph Traction Control; the R gets rain, road, sport & individual; and the RS gets that as well as an additional track mode. The RS also comes with a quick shifter.

Suspension-wise, the S uses a specially developed and tuned USD Showa SFF front suspension with 110 mm of travel, and a preload-adjustable Showa monoshock in the rear with 124 mm of travel and a piggyback reservoir.

The R uses a fully adjustable Showa SF-BPF front suspension with 115 mm of travel and in the rear, a Showa RSU monoshock with 131 mm of travel with spring preload, rebound and single-speed compression adjustment, and a piggyback reservoir.

The RS gets a Showa big piston, fully adjustable front fork with 115 mm of travel and an Ohlins STX40 adjustable monoshock with 131 mm of travel and a piggyback reservoir at the back. The shocks are work with a new stiffer gullwing-type rear swing arm that provides more natural resistance to compression under hard acceleration for better anti-squat performance as well as enabling quicker, tighter corner exits.

The Triumph Street Triple was first introduced in 2007 and has been hailed as one of the best naked motorcycles for city or track riding. Over 50,000 units have been sold worldwide. The new Street Triple continues this tradition and is also still the lightest bike in its class.
