After a quarter-century of moving families around, Toyota has released a special 25th Anniversary Edition of its 2023 Sienna minivan. The Sienna initially went on sale in 1997 for the 1998 model year.
The automaker said it has sold almost 300,000 Sienna vans in Canada since that first one hit the market, and when an all-new version was launched for 2021, it became the country’s best-selling minivan. It now comes only as a gas-electric hybrid, and can be optioned with all-wheel-drive (AWD), which uses a separate rear electric motor to power the rear wheels as required.
The 25th Anniversary Edition is based on the XSE AWD, but with some luxury cabin features from the Limited, and with exclusive exterior and interior trim. It includes roof rails, premium audio, wireless charging, and 1,500-watt power outlet. Exterior colours are Celestial Silver or Wind Chill Pearl, both with black badges and exterior trim. In the U.S., the Anniversary Edition is limited to just 2,525 examples, but Toyota did not make clear how many would be sold in Canada.

The interior features from the Limited include auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats with memory, black leather upholstery with silver stitching, second-row seats with ottomans, power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and illuminated door sills.
There are “25th Anniversary” logos on the floor mats and key fob. The 2023 Sienna’s hybrid powertrain makes a combined 245 horsepower and, in front-wheel-drive, is rated at an estimated 6.6 L/100 km in combined fuel consumption.
Toyota initially imported a rear-wheel-drive van, and then its Previa, before introducing the Sienna for 1998. It was designed specifically for North America, based on a larger version of the Camry’s platform, and built at the company’s plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. The second-generation Sienna, introduced for 2004, was the first with optional all-wheel-drive. The current fourth-generation van was introduced for 2021. Pricing for the 2023 Sienna will be announced later this summer.
