The most common driving icks which have been flagged as major turnoffs and even relationship enders have been revealed in a new study from the UK.
Fiat UK surveyed 2000 people about the types of driving habits and behaviours that were absolute turnoffs and potentially relationship-ending. The survey found that more than a third (40%) said that they suffered from ‘the ick’ when they’re in relationships, with 74% of those subsequently breaking up with a partner because of these deal-breaking habits.
The term “the ick” shot to prominence thanks to TV dating show Love Island, a term used to describe the moment you stop being attracted to someone which usually occurs in the early stages of a relationship. Usually due to an individual doing something either disturbing or annoying.
The study identified the 15 most common car-related icks with tailgating, road rage and vehicles filled with stuffed toys topping the ick list.
Top 15 car-related icks:
- Tailgating
- Road rage
- Vehicles filled with stuffed toys
- When people return to their cars with their hands full and struggle to get the door open and end up dropping everything from their hands
- Driving with gloves on
- Watching someone unsuccessfully parallel park
- When someone honks the second the traffic light goes green
- Playing loud music with the window down
- When drivers speed through puddles, splashing pedestrians
- Honking while in a traffic queue
- When someone revs their engine while at a red light or while stopped
- Driving extremely slowly below the speed limit
- Stopping too far away from a ticket machine at carpark/toll road and unable to reach the ticket
- Having windscreen wipers on their fastest mode when it is only drizzling
- Filling the car with fuel using gloves
Some of the more amusing and bizarre actions that led to ‘the ick’ included driving with gloves, stopping too far away from a ticket machine at a car park or toll road and having windscreen wipers on their fastest mode when it is only drizzling.
