The Suzuki Vitara Brezza may not be perfect in every way, but given how expensive life has become, it may just be the perfect antidote to keeping your wallet a little less empty. We drove the Vitara Brezza S-Edition and here's why we recommend it!
The Vitara Brezza S-Edition was recently added to the local Vitara Brezza line-up, and we have a few reasons why we think it’s certainly a car to shortlist if you’re a savvy shopper.
1. It looks urban-jungle-ready!
The S-Edition is based on the GL model but has its own visual signature. Up front, you’ll notice that the grill is adorned with a patterned cubic chrome design for that carbon fibre look. Silver garnish on a black background which can be found further down is also echoed at the rear and at the Brezza’s sides with silver skid plates. 16-inch alloys with 15 spokes in a silver and black finish round the look off nicely.
On the inside, Suzuki fitted stainless steel door sill guards to link the exterior brightwork with the ‘Uber Life Silver’ interior which consists of a silver finish that runs from rear door to rear door along the dash.
2. It’s practical and comfortable
Suzukis are well-known for being easy to live with. The Vitara Brezza S-Edition offers the same comfort features found in the GL range. This includes dual airbags, a touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a reverse camera, steering wheel controls and climate control. The boot is large enough for the average nuclear family’s daily needs too.
The GL model also has electric folding mirrors, rear parking sensors and height adjustment for the driver’s seat as standard. A full set of wind deflectors (specific to the S-Edition but can be specified as an extra) ensures that wind noise is kept to a minimum.
3. It’s affordable
There’s no need to buy the top-spec Vitara Brezza model to get bang for your buck: The Vitara Brezza 1.5 GL (upon which the S-Edition is based) has a starting price of R255 900 and competes with cars like the Renault Kiger, Baic X24, Mahindra KUV 100 and also the Mahindra XUV300, but is the only car in this list that I would consider.
The most affordable 1.5 GL S-Edition model (with a manual transmission) will set you back R273 900 which rivals cars such as the Hyundai Venue 1.2 Motion, Toyota Urban Cruiser and the more expensive Kia Sonet. It’s still a good deal considering the added styling spec.
4. It’s even lighter on fuel than we expected
I drove the Brezza for a full week and usually by the end of the week I need to refuel, but the Brezza still had plenty of mileage left when I returned it, one of the reasons is probably that its fuel tank can hold 48 litres! And at 6.2 litres per 100 km, it feels like it lasts forever.
The Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine with 77kW and
5. It’s not afraid of South African potholes
The Vitara Brezza is a sturdy little thing and does an outstanding job of absorbing the road’s lumps and bumps. One of the reasons for this is because it’s built in India where the roads aren’t too great either! The speed bumps en route to school were no match for the Vitara Brezza, even if you’re in a bit of a hurry because you pressed that snooze button one too many times.
