Lamborghini has unveiled the highest-performing Urus model to date, the Urus Performante. In this article, we highlight the top three things we think you should know about the new variant.
In a global market where the SUV is achieving the most sales for almost all manufacturers, it is no surprise that one of the latest unveilings from Lamborghini is the Urus S and Urus Performante variants. The Urus, which made its first appearance in 2017 globally and was made available in 2018 to the public, has quickly become one of the most popular models for the Italian marque.
However, this is not the first time Lamborghini has dabbled with the idea of a more utilitarian model. Enthusiasts will remember the “Rambo Lambo” or officially the LM002 being produced between 1986 and 1993. But where the LM002 was really utilitarian on both the exterior and interior, the Urus is a lot more stylish and definitely more luxurious.
Now though, the Italian marque has introduced two new variants of the popular SUV model, the Urus S and Urus Performante. Both offer customers even more performance, refinement and specification. But before you get an Instant Offer on your vehicle and start searching for new or used Lamborghini Urus models on AutoTrader, let us take a look at the top three things we think you should know about the Urus Performante.
1. Styling
Upon first glance, the new sharper and bolder front bumper and bonnet design cement the performance characteristics of this model. The bonnet comes with deep cuts which allow the additional hot air to escape from the engine bay. The additional air comes from the larger air dams while the newly included air curtain draws airflow over the front wheels. At the rear, the new spoiler increases the rear downforce of the Urus Performante by 38%.
However, the changes are not only stylistic as the bonnet and a variety of other areas in the vehicle now come in carbon fibre. In fact, the extensive use of composite material makes it the car with the highest number of carbon fiber parts in its segment. On the sides, clients will quickly notice the newly designed and optional 23-inch or forged 22-inch lightweight wheels. The stance of the vehicle is bolstered by lowering the chassis by 20 mm while the wheel track is increased by 16 mm.
2. Interior
When you step inside the cockpit, you will be greeted with a leather interior that is contrasted by Nero Cosmus black Alcantara. The latter is adorned with a hexagonal stitching design, a familiar theme in the flagship offerings from the Italian automaker. As the vehicle’s designation implies, the model comes as standard with the Performante trim, however, customers can customize the interior to include matt carbon fiber details, a customized kickplate and red door handles through the Ad Personam programme.
As standard black anodized aluminium trim and a matt black steering wheel features, however, an optional Dark Package can be specified which see other interior details such as the central TAMBURO also getting matt black treatment. To further enhance the distinctiveness of the Urus Performante, the Italian automaker has updated the HMI graphics on both the infotainment and digital instrument cluster.
3. Performance
The enhancements to the Lamborghini Urus Performante are not only skin deep. The premium marque has managed to reduce the overall weight of the model by 47 kg. Furthermore, owners can expect an additional 11.8 kW from the 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V8 petrol engine for a total of 490 kW and 850 Nm of torque. The reduced weight and increased power results in a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 303 km/h.
However, the straight-line speed is not the only aspect that has improved, as the vehicle’s dynamics are now better than the original Urus, according to Lamborghini. This statement is backed by the fact that the performance SUV managed to set a new record in the production SUV category of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Road. The previous record for the segment was 10:49.902, but the Urus Performante completed the stint in 10:32.064.
Customers can expect to pay around R 4 495 000 for the base specification Lamborghini Urus Performante. *The pricing was correct at the time of writing the article, however, can change at any moment and without notice.
