Malaysia is the second country in this region after Singapore to offer the BYD e6, a brand-new electric (EV) taxi. Like the 5 Wagon we posted a few weeks ago, this BYD e6 is also operated by MySuri Biz Tech, an online platform operator of the TeksiKu ride-hailing app.
The BYD e6 seen here at the ongoing International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) at KLCC is the second generation model that sits on the company’s e platform 3.0 and gets an electric motor that does 95 PS and 180 Nm, powered by BYD’s Blade Battery with a 71.7 kWh capacity, allowing for a 480 km range.
It supports DC fast charging via its CCS Type 2 port at 60 kW. The BYD e6 also supports AC charging at 40 kW.
According to MySuri’s COO, Abu Muslim Sharin, the company aims to deploy 10,000 units of these electric taxis by 2023. MySuri has also partnered with Sime Darby to introduce the BYD e6 in Malaysia, while the MG 5 Wagon will be brought in directly.
The pilot program, according to Abu Muslim Sharin, the EV taxi project will kick off in Langkawi first, with plans to expand to Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor in the near future. In Langkawi, MySuri will be working with Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi (LADA), which will see MySuri replacing some of the older taxis with these new electric ones.
