Trust us when we say that the upcoming design for the Formula 2022 cars will be revolutionary. Are you curious much? Well, be prepared for some shocking developments for the 2022 F1 cars. Let’s skip the chit-chat and see what F1 2022 car designs have in store!

They’re Designed for Better Racing

One of the latest design guiding principles for Formula 2022 cars is to facilitate closer racing. Currently, the catastrophic downforce loss is preventing closer racing. Research proves that F1 machines lose 35% of their downforce after running three car lengths behind any leading car. Thanks to the heavy onus on the aerodynamic, known as “ground effect,” the figures have reduced to just 18% at 10 meters.

Wheel Covers Make a Comeback

There are two significant announcement concerning wheels in F1 machines – the cars will come with over-wheel winglets, and wheel covers make a comeback! Wheel covers are a great addition to help the engines to increase the downforce. On the other hand, the winglets will assist in controlling the wake coming off the front tyres and channel it away from the rear wings. The winglets are way more aerodynamically resilient for close racing.

For the First Time Ever – 18-inch Low-Profile Tires for Cars!

If you’ve been following updates on Formula 2022 season, you might have come across footage of F1 teams testing Pirelli’s 18-inch tyres! These new 18-inch tyres aim to reduce overheating when the tyres slide. This addition aims to improve close racing in Formula 2022.

The latest change in tire size will also reduce the sidewall deflection changes. The F1 teams are prepping intensively to stimulate the airflow channels around the tyre shape. Cutting down the sensitivity in this area will significantly benefit the car design process.

A 70s Aero Feature Makes A Comeback!

The prep for the Formula 2022 car design started back in 2017. It soon became apparent that downforce is the key to enhancing and allowing closer racing in Formula 1. The ground effect gained popularity in Formula racing during the late 70s. However, ground effect cars ran obsolete at the end of 1982. Surprisingly, the designers have re-evoked ground effect with vortex-generating geometrics!

A Revamped Front Wing and Nose Concept

The front wings are getting more simplified upgrades in the last few seasons. However, the 2022 Formula 1 car will have an entirely different front wing shape. This new front wing will generate better and consistent downforce while chasing closely behind another machine. The current project engineers claim this new front wing design to be an “anti-outwash” front wing.
