The SSC Tuatara was first presented at Dubai International Motor Show back in 2011, the company was named Shelby Supercar Inc back then. Nine years later, the production-ready SSC Tuatara was premiered at Philadelphia Auto Show, now with a maximum 1724bhp output.
As we can see from the outside, the production-ready Tuatara made some cosmetic change on the front, now it looks more aggressive than the concept model. The same thing happened for the side profile but I do think that the new aero kits made the car less sleek. One thing particular intriguing for original Tuatara's exterior is the fighter-jet-inspired rear wings, it's glad to see them been kept for the production vehicle.
There is a 5.9 litre twin-turbo V8 which revs up to 8800rpm sits behind the driver. With normal 91 octane in the tank, this engine has “modest” 1330bhp output, but if you can sort some E85 into the tank, this engine will burst 1724bhp to the rear wheel with the help from a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox. With this amount of horses, this earth-ripping machine has more potential in the top speed run. According to its designer Jason Castriota, the hypercar can hit 300mph easily, but due to safety concern, the Tuatara is factory-limited to 273.4mph.
The engineers have also designed a front lift, raising the front suspension by 40 millimetres to clear speed bumps without the fear of scraping the lip spoiler. While on the subject of convenience, the SSC Tuatara's cabin fits drivers and passengers as tall as 6 feet and 5 inches.
SSC decided to make 100 copies of Tuatara, it's a fairly large amount considering its ultimate performance. The company hasn't released any price detail on the hypercar right now, but according to the price of its predecessor which had a price tag of £576k fourteen years ago, the retail price would be around £1million.
