Aston Martin’s most storied model line, the DB series, has a new member. The DB12 is, Aston Martin claims, the “world’s first super tourer” as opposed to a grand tourer sports car.
Named for the company’s owner for most of the 1900s, David Brown, the DB series enters its 12th iteration after the 11 was the first model launched under the brand’s ‘Second Century Plan’.
With a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 under its bonnet, borrowed from Mercedes-AMG, there’s no mention of a V12 variant marking a departure from tradition carried up until the DB11.
Its engine makes 500kW and 800Nm, and Aston Martin claims a 0-60mph (which is 0-97km/h) sprint in just 3.5 seconds – not bad for a car with a kerb weight likely approaching two tonnes.
While previous DB models have been referred to as grand tourers, Aston Martin says the DB12 should be a ‘super tourer’ due to its outputs and dynamics that it claims make it the “sharpest DB ever”.
