The new 2023 Nissan Z, in all its manual transmission, twin turbo, rear-wheel drive glory has been in the spotlight for well over a year now. With the car finally set to hit dealerships this summer, it’s poised to remain the talk of the town, with enthusiasts arguing over its merits as compared to competitors like the Supra. Either that, or they’ll be busy playing Rocket League. The latest in the Z-car bloodline found some time to get digitized and rocket powered for the arcade-style soccer-car competition game, and it looks like a lot of fun.
Rocket League, the smash hit video game published by Psyonix, will now include the new Z as a playable option. For 1,100 credits, the Nissan Z Performance Bundle will include the Z, performance wheels, engine audio, player banner, and a Nissan x FaZe Clan decal with adjustable colors to match your team’s hue.
If you’ve never had an inkling to play soccer with rocket-powered vehicles that you control to attempt to score on your opponents using a massive soccer ball, then this might all sound a bit crazy – especially without Vin Diesel or The Rock involved. A fun and incredibly addictive game, it incorporates end-users’ love of automotive culture and Esports in an immersive, arcade-style atmosphere. There are countless modification options, tournaments, various game types, and even the ability to custom-tailor the rules.
The game proved to be a hit soon after its release, with over 5 million downloads shortly after its debut and multiple awards earned. The interest and enthusiasm surrounding the game only grew, eventually leading to physical copies being sold in stores and, in 2020, it became free to play – an act that drew 1 million concurrent players that same month.
In video game terms, something created in 2015 has no business remaining so beloved by gamers who continue to take part in competition after competition. Rocket League has managed to breakthrough and hold strong, boasting between 50,000 and 100,000 concurrent players on average at the end of 2021, where it also saw just under 100 million players monthly. It’s easily one of the most popular racing games currently available.
Not only is Nissan lending its modern-day golden child to the Rocket League, but they’ll also be sponsoring eSports events like the Rocket League Championship Series North American Regionals, being called the “Nissan Classic” later this month. In June, Nissan will also act as presenting sponsor for the Collegiate Rocket League World Championship, as well as maintaining that honor going into the Fall 2022 season, so don’t miss it.
